Performance Proceedings of Assam Horticultural Show-2009, Tezpur

• Assam Horticultural Show-2009 (15th State Level Horticultural Show) held at Nehru Maidan, christened as Gangacharan Bhattacharya Kshetra,Tezpur from Jan 30 to Feb 3/2009 was unique in the north bank of Assam and highly successful with (a) a full-fledged Exhibition of 60 Stalls of Nurseries, Bio-input producers & Technology Stalls from NEDFI, National Bamboo Mission, Defence Research Laboratory, Farm Machinery Training Centre, Dr Gunaram Khanikar's Moving Lab of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Etc, (b) Competitions of Flowers, Vegetables & Horticultural products decorated aesthetically with more than 500 participants including MOMAI TAMULI BARBARUA AWARD 2008-09 for the Best Fruit-gardener of Assam, (c) Quality Seminars & Trainings 11 Nos. with 650 trainees from all corners of Assam with graceful of resource persons from CISH (ICAR), Lucknow, AAU, NEDFi, NERIWALM, DRL, National Bamboo Mission, Department of Agriculture, Assam and Assam Institute of Agril. Management, (d) Live Spot Demo of Grafting by Md Hydar Ali, S/O Haji Hussain Ali Master, Ambagan, (e) Publication of Souvenir 'Udyan Jeuti' & Mouth-piece 'Udyan Sarathi' and (f) Average Daily Footsteps : 2,000 Nos. visiting from all corners of Assam, with lunch & dinner arrangements for 700 delegates/day for 5 days.

• Momai Tamuli Barbarua Award 2008-09 for the Best Fruit-gardener of Assam is bagged by Sri Rajesh Singphow, Mugong Pather, Enthem, Tinsukia;
  
• with 1st Runners up Sri Kamichan Mili, Baligaon, Sonitpur;
• and 2nd Runners up Md Nurul Islam, Kathpara, Nagaon Jila.
  

• Award was sponsored by MULTIPLEX consisting of a High-tech Hand Sprayer worth Rs 1,500/-, an Accident Insurance Policy for Rs 25,000/- for one year, Krishak Vermi-compost 1 Pkt, Fulam Gamocha, Fulam Japi, a Diary etc.;
  
• 1st Runners up was sponsored by Excel Agri-Tech Industries (EAT-In), Biswanath Chariali consisting of Horticultural Implements worth Rs 750/-, an Accident Insurance Policy for Rs 25,000/- for one year, Vermex Vermi-compost 1 Bag, Fulam Gamocha, Fulam Japi, a Diary etc.;and
  
• 2nd Runners up was sponsored by the Assam Horticultural Society, Khanapara, Guwahati-22 consisting of Horticultural Implements worth Rs 650/-, an Accident Insurance Policy for Rs 25,000/- for one year, Krishak Vermi-compost 1 Pkt, Fulam Gamocha, Fulam Japi, a Diary etc.

SEMINAR THEME AND SCOPE

The state of Assam is endowed with a rich diversity of horticultural resources with tremendous potential for their utilization and commercialization. However, commercial horticulture in true sense in the state is yet to have a breakthrough due to multiple constraints , specific to the region. The fact remains that with distinct eco-geographical advantages, strong base of horti-resources, available workforce, domestic and export market potentials – all combined together can bring forth to usher in a new dawn in the horticultural horizon of the state. To achieve this the state needs strategic approach designed to promote the holistic growth of horticultural sector through location specific and need based blue prints and plans so much so that all the aspects from farm to fork are adequately addressed to promote the holistic growth of the horticultural sector in the region.

The proposed seminar / interactive sessions / motivational trainings as a part of the Assam Horticultural Show, 2009 are targeted for various Institutions / Organizations, Horticulturists , Entrepreneurs, Scientists , Experts, Bankers / Financing / Input agencies and the Extension workers. The Mega Event is jointly organized by the Assam Agricultural Society (AHS), Central Committee, Khanapara, Guwahati-22, AHS, Sonitpur District Branch, Department of Agriculture, Sonitpur District and District Administration , Sonitpur, Assam.

The proposed seminar, being structured with various sub-themes and presentations is aimed to showcase the strength and potentials of the vibrant areas viz. diversification and strengthening of horticultural production base, commercialization of horticulture , post –harvest management including food processing and value addition , organic farming , export oriented productions and marketing , medicinal and aromatic plants, bamboo cultivation and utilization , indoor horticulture , mushroom production technology, skill upgradation , employment generation , horti-based entrepreneurship development , and eco-aesthetics as some of the thrust areas in the state horticultural sector.
