SEMINAR THEME AND SCOPE

The state of Assam is endowed with a rich diversity of horticultural resources with tremendous potential for their utilization and commercialization. However, commercial horticulture in true sense in the state is yet to have a breakthrough due to multiple constraints , specific to the region. The fact remains that with distinct eco-geographical advantages, strong base of horti-resources, available workforce, domestic and export market potentials – all combined together can bring forth to usher in a new dawn in the horticultural horizon of the state. To achieve this the state needs strategic approach designed to promote the holistic growth of horticultural sector through location specific and need based blue prints and plans so much so that all the aspects from farm to fork are adequately addressed to promote the holistic growth of the horticultural sector in the region.

The proposed seminar / interactive sessions / motivational trainings as a part of the Assam Horticultural Show, 2009 are targeted for various Institutions / Organizations, Horticulturists , Entrepreneurs, Scientists , Experts, Bankers / Financing / Input agencies and the Extension workers. The Mega Event is jointly organized by the Assam Agricultural Society (AHS), Central Committee, Khanapara, Guwahati-22, AHS, Sonitpur District Branch, Department of Agriculture, Sonitpur District and District Administration , Sonitpur, Assam.

The proposed seminar, being structured with various sub-themes and presentations is aimed to showcase the strength and potentials of the vibrant areas viz. diversification and strengthening of horticultural production base, commercialization of horticulture , post –harvest management including food processing and value addition , organic farming , export oriented productions and marketing , medicinal and aromatic plants, bamboo cultivation and utilization , indoor horticulture , mushroom production technology, skill upgradation , employment generation , horti-based entrepreneurship development , and eco-aesthetics as some of the thrust areas in the state horticultural sector.
